Guest Conductors Throughout the Season!
The December concert will be conducted by Dr. Seth Carlson, bandmaster at Westminster School, professional organist, founder and conductor of the Miami Sousa Band. February will feature Ms. Cathi Leibinger, former director at Ransom Everglades Middle School, fabulous French horn player, and a leader in the Florida Bandmaster Association. “Miss Kat” Yarbrough, band director at Plantation Key School and mother of three adorable girls, will lead the April Young Musician concert. Mr. Thom Proctor will join us in March and as concertmaster for the Greater Miami Concert Band, as well as many years in the music industry, it is sure to be fabulous.
Season Conductor - Mr. Robert Sax
A talented jazz pianist and sax player, Robert Sax, recently returned from sabbatical in China where his musical magic inspired students at the Beijing National School. Here at home, he is band director at Coral Shores High School where the bands have repeatedly earned straight superior ratings at Florida Bandmaster Association Marching, Concert Band and Solo/Ensemble Music Performance Assessment Festivals. Mr. Sax is a graduate of Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor of Music in Performance Jazz Piano. He received a Masters Degree from the American Band College in 2014.
Concertmaster - Ms. Susan Bazin
Professional flautist, Susan Bazin, is Band Director at Key Largo Middle School. She is former chairman of Florida Bandmaster Association District 20. Honors include Inclusion Teacher of the Year 2003, DCPS Superintendent Award 2004, Kaizen Award 2005, FMEA Music Enrollment Award 2008 and 2013, KLS Teacher of the Year 2009, VFW Teacher of the Year 2011, Grant Memorial Straight Superior Concert MPA 2012, 2013 and 2014 and, most recently, inducted into the American School Band Directors Association. After a rigorous orchestral performing career throughout South Florida, she relocated to the Keys twenty years ago and enjoys the lifestyle and culture of this beautiful area.
